Andrew Bonney

Welcome to my personal page. This is the part of my site where I share some fun photos, talk about my hobbies, and write anything I want! Here is a little more about me... My initial fascination with science was quite different than it is now. In high school I wanted to be a dentist. My teeth were horrible so going to the dentist and orthodontist a lot as a kid sparked this goal; the prospect of running my own practice really appealed to me. This led me to pursue a degree in biology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City with the aim of entering dental school.

However, as I branched out my love of knowledge evolved beyond dentistry. Before college, my worldview was fairly conventional, but exposure to scientific literature expanded my perspective. I joined a philosophy honors society and became fascinated by the intersection of evolutionary biology and human cognition. Reading Sapiens, diving into the mechanics of causal inference, and learning about split-brain experiments challenged my previous assumptions. Exploring how scientific and empirical frameworks can actually inform our understanding of human values and well-being introduced me to new ways of thinking. This intersection of philosophy and data guided me toward biology through an information systems lens, leading directly to my focus on bioinformatics.

This ultimately shifted my career path toward understanding complex biological systems. Now I am becoming an experienced researcher in this gigantic multi-disciplinary field, and want to build a biotech company that pushes our understanding of what it means to be human. After working multiple quality control jobs in the pharmaceutical industry, I have come to value the mass-collaboration and resources available in industry. My core strengths are competitiveness, a strong sense of purpose, and intellectual curiosity. I feel like this field suits me well because it lets me merge old philosophical insights with modern techniques, tackle complex challenges thoughtfully, and see how scientific advancements connect with human health. Right, so please send me book recommendations because I am always looking for interesting things to read!
